I had been thinking of starting this school anyway, and I told her she could come, for free in exchange for work study, and she did.
She was so dedicated and great, but when college age came, SVA, her preferred school, was out of reach, which to me was nuts. She was a teenager in New Jersey and I taught her in the pre-college classes at SVA in NYC. Each student is encouraged to put plenty of effort into their work, but they're also taught to have fun and just enjoy themselves along the way.Įach class will meet on Sundays from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at GVA. This class is perfect for younger kids who just want to enjoy a fun art class in a relaxed, student-friendly environment and for older amateur artists looking to build or improve their art portfolios.
Those students fondly remember how much fun his classes were, but also remember how Bob's insightful critiques helped them develop their visual storytelling skills. Students will be expected to bring their own art supplies, although substitute materials can be provided if necessary.īob's former students have gone on to work as visual storytellers at companies like Dreamworks, EA Games, Marvel Comics, Nickelodeon, Adult Swim, Disney, Hasbro, DC Comics, Tokyopop and IDW. Writers who'd like to better understand the artist's role will be just as welcome. Despite a few hours of homework being suggested every week, all sessions will be designed to be informative and fun whether homework is completed or not. Each session will consist of lectures, exercises, slide show presentations and critiques. Sequential Art Professor Bob Pendarvis will be teaching a workshop for students and practicing artists looking to improve their visual storytelling skills for illustrating comic books and children's picture books.
